Jim and Monica, his wife of 30 years, are lifelong Ohioans who reside in
Springfield Ohio. Jim was a two sport high school and NCAA division III
varsity athlete. Following graduation from The College of Wooster, Jim spent
more than 25 years working within, developing, and administrating youth
programs impacting teens, young adults, and families around the Miami
Valley.
Jim Brown has dedicated much of the last fifteen years to working with
athletes and coaches. Jim believes we do athletes a disservice when we
focus solely on their physical development. When most think about “athlete
development” they almost always solely think about where the athlete
currently is physically and what can be done physically to help them improve.
We evaluate their strength, flexibility, speed, agility, etc. We evaluate the sport
and position-specific skills or tools they need to perfect to maximize their
potential for success. All of this is necessary. But, this is where most of us
stop when we plan how to assist athletes with their development.
Jim advocates an integrated approach to athlete development helping the
athlete understand the interconnectedness between the heart, the mind, the
soul, and the body. Jim teaches four integrated pillars of success or what he
calls FITness areas (Spiritual FITness, Mental FITness, Emotional FITness,
and Physical FITness. In his work with coaches and athletes, Jim began using
FCA resources to aid in developing and/or strengthening Spiritual FITness. In
2001 Jim joined FCA as an Area Representative focused on Clark and
Champaign Counties in the Miami Valley.
